So my new website just after 7 days I bought the domain, started getting some Google Image Giant Hits with about 3000 visitors per day and 5000 page impressions. I've done nothing but written quality content and some proper image alt tags. My website is just 7 days old, got only 4 articles with 6 tags and a total of 10 links and my bounce rate just due to a single image landing page is 70%. I have no ad clicks since its image traffic and hardly anyone visits the website through Images. People just view images off, cross it and go to the next one. So I can't lower it, if it was Web Search it would have balanced up, but what should I do now ? Is it really something to worry about ?
First high bounce can't get your site penalized. I think the reason that your bounce rate is so high is because the traffic that you get is not well targeted. The only way you can lower it is by targeting specific keywords and going some deep linking. I think those people may come to your site by accident or through broad terms. The problem is the less targeted your traffic is the higher your bounce rate will be. I would suggest you to go after keywords that are targeted which can drive good traffic instead of unnecessary traffic which will ultimately cause your bounce rate to be so damn high.
Bounce rate high might due to the below reason, 1. Non targeted traffic 2. Less/low quality content 3. Internal link not friendly You need to find out the rootcause before you can improve your bounce rate
"First high bounce can't get your site penalized." - Well, actually it can get his site penalized. It just depends where the traffic comes from. When the traffic comes from Google and you still have this high bounce rate, Google recognizes it and sends you right back to all the other low quality websites. Google always wants to deliver best content. Keep this in mind my friend. This is the key to success in SEO.
Your getting a high bounce rate because that's what image search traffic is like, they're usually only visiting your website for the image, once they've seen/downloaded the image they'll leave your website, it's natural for the type of traffic really. You real options are either to ensure the image is viewed via a page with advertisements, so people won't be able to directly view the image file, that'll help with getting the impressions up, but the traffic isn't going to convert very well no matter what you do really.
There are ways to improve your bounce rate. Adding video's or blog articles to your site is not enough, but it can help. Try to put things on your site like "related news" or "related posts" depending on what type of site you have. A bounce rate is because people are visiting your site and either finding the information they need and clicking somewhere else, or they get to your site and are not attracted to "finding out more". You should share the site with us so that someone can look at it and maybe offer advice.
As you said people are more interested in your images only...I think you should focus on content traffic ..write more articles..do some internal linking..
