It is the percentage of your website visitors who will see only 1 page of your website. This traffic is considered low quality since they probably are not interested in the content of your website. You can compare the bounce rate by keyword to find out which keywords are relevant. You can also compare PPC campaigns this way if you have not set up the goals. The higher bounce rate the less effective the campaign is.
My thoughts on this is that it's wrong to palce an emphasis on this and I'll tell you why. (I feel like Wesley in the Princess Bride, when I say "I'll tell you why") I have visitors who google a word that happens to be on my site and no, they never meant to come and read film reviews, they were looking for that word so -blast- they're off. HOWEVER, the bounce rate of people who google filmfeline.com is 25% so it's not bad, altough the other words it's at 80 or a 100 so that really bugs me. It also tells me that people who come to look for me, stay - people who weren't looking for reviews obviously leave, DUH I've added other stuff now, like celeb lookalike pics to keep those stargazers a bit more interested, but it really is a review site so, even tho it's just brand new and growing, the whole bounce rate thing really pisses me off b/c it's so not telling the exact truth. If you're looking for an elephant and you get a cow, of course you'll leave asap and keep looking for the elephant, no? (takes another sip...)
You can tell how high quality traffic is by how low the percentage is. Of course, your this is assuming your site is the highest quality too.
I should clarify. If you're using AdWords, for example, and your ads are well targeted, but you still have a high bounce rate, your site is not working. However, if you have a good site with a low bounce rate from referrers like Google and Yahoo, then try to get traffic from another source and the bounce rate is extremely high than the culprit is usually low quality traffic.
hmmm..one more point that I think is if we open the link to another post or page of our own website or blog, Google takes it as a bounce and bounce rate increases. So, this is one reason why target=_self should be specified to links. Please correct me if wrong
well everyone has a bounce rate but i guess you can change your content to be more sales oriented, but at least your seeing some traffic so you doing something right but goodluck and dont give up
Lower the bounce rate better the performance and higher the bounce rate indicate improvement required in website.
I also have same problem from my website. its www(dot)srsofttech(dot)com. It has bounce rate around 58%. Kindly review my site and suggest me that how can I minimize that.
Where the traffic comes from can also affect bounce rate. If, for instance, I were to click on a link in a signature in this forum out of curiosity, and then hit the back button, then that site experiences a 100% bounce rate for my hit.
I've got a website with lots of smaller pages - so my bounce rate is pretty high - I think it's between 70-73% Still, I'm not selling anything, so it works out Ken,
