Well i'v never boguht a turnkey website before but i saw one on ebay i wanted so i bidded for it and won. I was expecting them to email me a template that i could uplaod to my website but instead i got this email: Does the turnkey system usually work like this? I was expecting to be just given a website i could upload to my host without any trouble at all? Let me know
This is definetly a scam. He just wants to get his referral money. A turnkey just means you get the files and upload to your host.
Yep, definitely a scam.. Leave negative feedback on eBay, apply for a refund and hopefully this guy will get caught and punished.
Yeah, thats not very cool of the guy, but he didn't really give any false advertisement. I suppose this is why you should read the auctions you bid on thoroughly eh? I'd imagine you didn't pay much for the site, or at least hope not. If you did, then spend the $9.95 close your hostgator account if you want after it is setup.
OK, this is giving guys like me a bad name. I literally made 2 sites recently to sell to quickly from my portfolio website (See my signature). I found the term "turnkey" on the web and have used it with my new idea. I'm offering 2 sites + a year's worth of hosting, all the buyer needs is their own domain name... My site doesn't look dodgy does it?? I hope not, cos I'm an honest web designer! The eBay guy is obviously a fraudster. RJP1
The ebay guy has like 100+ positive feedback and no negative though so i don't want to give him negative until i give him a chance... waiting on an email reply gonna give him 24 hours
What are you waiting for. What chance ? Is obviously a shady sale. He knows it, we knows it and by now you should know it
Attack!!!!! j/k Talk to the guy first. There might be a way out of this without resulting to warfare. Col
Hehe, giving a bad rep is not warfare, anyway, the funny thing here is that if anybody signs up with hostgator and dont pay for a second month the guy will not get any money from hostgator, they will even ban him for sending so much bad traffic.
Why is it a scam? The terms and conditions are CLEARLY stated in the advert. If you read them and bid - YOU must comply with the contract you entered into when you bid. If you didn't read the fine print - Too bad. You still must honour the contract. Sorry, but I don't see how this is a scam if the terms and conditions are there to be read.
I agree that it is NOT a scam. If you didn't bother to read the auction that is your problem. When I buy something I want to know what I am buying, that is why I read the auction.
I agree it is not a scam and I would definitely not leave negative feedback if I was refunded. In fact, if I was refunded, I would leave positive feedback because it was my error. However I would ask for a refund - it sounds like you have - and if it was not granted I might leave a neutral with some advice to other buyers like "read the small print carefully!" The other thing you might check is whether this kind of conditional sale contravenes any of ebay's policies. If it does, that would be good ammunition for your refund request because you could threaten to complain to ebay and stop him selling this way again. But it may be that it is perfectly acceptable to ebay, I do not know. Or as suggested by someone else you could pay Hostgator for the first month and then cancel and move the site to your own host. A Hatchling account is only $6.95. Depends how much you want the site. Gal
were it me... i'd buy the hosting at hostgator... that's in the item description... handing over your account info is not in the item description. He can send you the files for you to install. If he doesn't then you have grounds to leave negative feedback.
