Bought a managed VPS and domain, what now?

    Hello!

I ordered a managed VPS (with cPanel/WHM) from VPSLatch today and bought a domain at GoDaddy. What should I do now? How do I setup nameservers? How to I upload my files? I am really, really confused. I have never worked with servers before (only regular shared plans). Is there any good step-by-step guide about this for newbies like me?

Sorry to tell you that you go with the wrong choice.
VPSLatch is not a good VPS.

As for setup NS,you will get an IP when you buy the VPS.

You'll need to create custom nameservers at Godaddy and point them to the IPs assigned to you.

If they provide managed solutions for their VPS - switch and use them

If you don't know how to complete these tasks then you really shouldn't have your own VPS. You will end up with a mess, a lot of stress, and a highly insecure set-up. You should be looking for a managed solution.

The things you are asking are very simple for those who are experienced or know how to do it, but these are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to managing a dedicated server. There's nothing wrong with wanting to learn, but if you're considering operating an important web site on your VPS then don't. You need professional help to do it right.

If you got the VPS just as a learning exercise, then good luck to you. You'll have a lot to learn and if you are interested in the set-up and security of systems you should enjoy yourself.

in the email you got from your provider , find out what's your vps IP

    then Follow these step
    http://forums.thewebhostingdir.com/...m/788-setting-up-name-servers-cpanel-whm.html

Then when done from the above , follow these step :
    https://support.buyhttp.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=29

when done from both , Go to your WHM , look on the left side , find (Create a New account )
click on that , follow the easy steps and create the account

any account you create on the server , go to where its registered and change its DNS to the new ones you just created in step 1 and step 2

    its really easy just google

Some people will tell you to use shared hosting, but using a vps an excellent choice for a beginner. You get to learn as you go without the hassle of a dedicated server, and all of the experience you gain on the vps works just as well when administering a dedicated server or hosting servers locally. Only I would not suggest a managed vps as since you're starting out, uptime is not so important and unmanged tend to cost less. If you're paying $20/mo or less, then you shouldn't worry about it too much.

Learning how to administer a vps is beyond the scope of what anyone can help you with here. Most vps have a set of instruction pages, a wiki, or a forum (or all three) set up to help new users learn the ropes. For example, VPSLink has forums and a wiki, Linode and Slicehost have instruction pages.

Is not so hard to setup your domain names on your VPS

    1) Login on your godaddy account and CREATE the name server for the domain that you added ordered with your VPS.
GoDaddy is not user friendly creating the name server i toked me a while to figure where to add those name servers. Anyway you can contact the staff to guide you where to create name servers. Once you are in there you will have to create two NS with servers ips and name: ns1.yourdomain.com - 233.233.233.11 and ns2.yourdomain.com - 233.233.233.12 (if you vps have one ip only use the same ip for ns1 and ns2

    2) Login on your WHM search for "ADD PAckage". There you can create a package for your accounts. just simply add a name and leave everything unlimited.

    3) Go to "Create Account" tab and create an account for the one you have created name servers.

    4) Wait for goddady to propagate your Name servers, once they are propagated you can access your website.

    5) Done.

When you add new domain to your account those domains need to be pointed to the name servers that you have created for the "primary" domain. Example: If you add on your account the domain "myseconddomain.com" you need to login to goddady and point the name server to ns1.yourdomain.com ns2.yourdomain.com (no need to create again the name servers).

Reply or PM me if you have any questions.
