Hi .. Is botw.org worth paying 300$ for a submission ? They have 20% discount coupon this month btw .. Thanks
They have also one year for $149, and I would choose this one. I value it for some $50 a year, but I may be wrong.
I paid $300 for lifetime submission for one of my websites. But, didn't feel much worth in paying that much. Also they don't just accept all listings. They rejected my first submission which was already accepted in yahoo directory saying its not unique! Then I had to submit something else to save the money!
Where does the value lie? It is an old established directory. But what benefits does one get from a listing? Traffic? A boost in the serps? We charge $5 for a link review which in my mind is too low if one takes into account the fact that the directory owner needs to periodically review the listed sites and strip out the dead wood.
Just submitted for category sponsor listing, comes with 30 days free trial. I don't mind investing in my directory and soon, I'll find out what kind of traffic/ROI I can get from top category placement
What did you submit as a title? Are you tracking your serp? What sort of jump do you expect? What sort of ROI are you looking for?
A1: my main keyword A2: of course I am A3: 5 spots up would give me nice top10 placement next to locald.com , business.com and yellowpages.com A4: enough traffic=subscriptions to cover BOTW.org sponsored listing fee plus small extra Next question please!
Will be most interested to get your feedback. I have been experimenting with our sites and one can see the humps and bumps. But I have never played outside of our immediate market.
But is a link, any link worth $300? I can't see it. You can get sixty links with sixty different key word combinations for what you have to spend. You can get sixty deep links scattered about on different servers. Why does anyone want to pay that amount of money for any directory? It is an established directory and that does have value. But if one follows the strict interpretation of Google's guidelines they are also selling position without a no follow tag. And if Google comes to the conclusion that they need to make an example and victimise a few prominent sites, which ones would you choose? What is a fair value for a one way back link? I would place it anywhere between $10 and $25 once off.
Hey , I feel you, nevertheless it doesn't cost me but $1 to try it for 30 days. If I dont get substantial traffic injection from it, I probably wont turn it in to a permanent link, will see.
FTR - Matt Cutts addressed that concern in the video below from Google's site:
I wouldn't believe everything Matt Cutts says and I stand by what I said. If one follows the strict interpretation of Google's guidelines they are also selling position without a no follow tag. Yes Google is inconsistent. But just because you get away with it today, it does not mean that paying for position is a good nor necessarily a smart thing to do. It is a link, is any link worth $300? And are we talking about traffic? What if we strip traffic out of the equation?
Aren't Google the guy's who came up with PR? Look at how many so called experts get that one wrong. What a shame. And the point being made here is more a question of value. Are you arguing that just because Google does not enforce its own guidelines, it's worth paying a premium for position on some directories. Where does one draw the line? Where does selling links become questionable? Can I charge extra for our deep links just because Matt said it's OK to pay botw for their links?
