Bothered with data mining...

Don't know if I should put it here, but it's programming related and I need some opinion. I'm somehow bothered with a project I'm working on, so I'm asking this question in case people have been through this too.

We were asked to make/manage a job site, and pretty much we had everything it would need. The problem is that promoting such things could cost a lot and would take time for job seekers and employers to get to post resumes and job hirings, respectively. This would be a huge marketing effort, I believe.

So what our boss did to fill up pages and page of job posts in the site immediately was to let us scrape data from 3 huge job sites in our region and put it up on our own site. He said this would just be temporary until the marketing guys gets the site going. But months long into the project and we're still mining data from the 3 other websites.

Is it time we cry out 'foul' already? It seems too much and I'm really tired of 'stealing' data. Doesn't make me proud of what I'm doing.

I think it's time to give up. Your marketing guys are obviously not generating any conversions if you're having to copy/paste job advertisements from your competitors' websites.

    Is the pay particularly good?

I can't blame marketing if it's not getting enough support from our management. Our boss is particularly fond of getting cash quickly by hook or by crook. Most of the time he leans towards shady means of business. LOL!

I was confronted with some ethical dilemmas recently. If you don't think it's going to change, then you have to start looking for another job. IMHO, it's just not worth the stress. Jeff
