While almost everybody suggests not to use borders, i see borders in adsense ads in many websites.

Depends on your site design. I took the border off of my ad's and it doubled my CTR.

Just try it and see if you get results.

I think much of it depends on the layout/theme of your site. though many ppl recommend border less ads for max CTR

yah - depends on a lot of things.. the only way to really know if it will work for you or not is to try it.. I just finished 2-weeks of testing borders vs no borders on my leaderboards... NO borders has about 1/4 higher CTR for me.

Using borders is good only in colored background... I prefer rounder corners...

For me, only the ads with borders especially ads with rectangle borders are attracting much more than borderless ads.... Its true that in some designs ads with borders will attracts the users concentration...

Thanks for the replies. Apparently some tests need to be done in each case.

For the few sites that I do still use Adsense on, I've found borderless ads to get many more clicks than those with borders.

I never use borders, as they don't work for me.

You can give it a try, may be they will work better for you.

Testing is the key to success in anything online. . . you should always be split testing something, picking the winner and moving onto the next variable to test.

In the case of Adsense, it is not just the borders, but matching/offset colors to your page, placement of ads, size of ads.

Like many others, I have found that no borders works better, but you need to test for your site and design. The only universal truth is there is no such thing.

I found that 'no borders' is usually better than 'borders', if the background colour of the ads is the same as the page.

But I also did a test of 'no borders' vs 'rounded corners and changing background colours' for the ads and there was no difference between the two in CTR. So if you don't like 'no borders' ads try that instead (you can set multiple ad formats in the ad setup page)

I think if you use borders and you get clicks, then the person was actually interested in clicking on your Ad(s).
Which could mean a better conversion rate for advertisers, meaning you will get more per click and not get smartpriced.

Like some people said, it depends on how the borders will look with the rest of your site's bg....but for me my borders work great! :)
