Another option how to speed your Web site is to stop using Apache and use Lighty or some other alternative.

I've been using Lighty for few months already and it works great. I have also tested it with Wordpress and phpBB. Great performance.

Plus it's fairly easy to set static URLs for Wordpress and such. You don't have .htaccess file but Lighttpd rewrite rules are very straightforward - just insert them in the config file and restart your server.
