Im interested to know just exactly what kind of record keeping/book keeping systems you people have in place to keep track of multiple websites? Do you treat each website seperately in your records, what is your method? I currently have a small network of around 4 websites now and am finding it increasingly difficult keeping track of the earnings and outgoings for each one. Any advice or examples of your own record keeping would be a huge help to me Thankyou!
It will probably be in your best interest to track each site separately. That will not only give you the ability to track how each of your sites are doing, but also should you decide to sell one in the future you will need to present that information to prospective buyers. They won't be too interested in what your other sites are doing, and it will be a royal pain in the butt to get it all separated after the fact. You could go with something as simple as a spreadsheet, which probably makes sense before you start to make a decent profit. Once you have a lot of money coming in and going out you will want a more sophisticated system. I use Quickbooks online for tracking multiple businesses. There is a cost, but it has everything you will need. It also supports the ability to track 'divisions', which you could use to track each website separately under the same QB account. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice John, I currently have one main website that generates most of my income. I've been using QB to record the incomings and outgoings for that website solely. Now however i've got a couple other sites that are becoming profitable so obviously i'll have to start recording this info more closely.
