Long story short, I have been wasting away. Lost 40 pounds give or take a few in about a months time, went to doc after violently throwing up, food tasting like battery acid, shaking uncontrollably, sweating like mad and others.

Anyways, went to the doc, she immediately called an ambulance and sent me to the emergency room. In order to get my natural overall levels I have been forced to stop taking supplements of all forms, even multi vitamins.

My strength is horrible, my endurance worse. I am wasting away when it comes to muscle, but gaining fat. Been going almost daily for blood tests and the likes, today just got more blood drawn for a few tests including my Test levels.

My weight went from 284 down to the 240's, was much weaker. Now I've been adding weight again but it's all fat! My strength continues to go down.

My family and friends can see the difference, my arms lost almost 2" in a matter of about 2 weeks. A guy at the gym didn't even recognize me when I walked in.

I hope they figure it out soon, I'm not even 1/2 as strong as I once was :(

Have they figured anything out yet, Grim? What are they looking for?

I'm sure they are just guessing at this point, but are they giving you any ideas as to what it could be?

You select good gym in your residensial locality. Go to gym and do it with great comitement. You do not discontinue the regular practice. If you discontinue, then you missed. Here comitement is more important.

I used to bodybuild and actually just started working out again today... My best advice is to eat right, train right, and take natural supplements.

I made the mistake of taking some supplements with side effects when I was younger and couldn't regret it any more...
Get familiar with nutrition and commit to this lifestyle for optimum results

It depends on what your trying to do, but in most cases free weights are 10x's better, most people are just intimidated by them. You can get a power rack, and a stack of weights for less than a new Bowflex. If you just want to tone up then it's fine I guess, but your not going to gain raw strength, or look like the guys from the commercial. ;)

Well, I am finally back to the gym after taking the summer off.... It feels great to be back. :D

But I went back for a week, pulled the muscles in my back and had to take a week off... But now that's better and I am back at it.

This year my goals are different. Last year I was trying to lose weight, so I was doing high reps (3 sets of 15). I lost 40+ pounds and now I am ready to tone up and shape some nice muscle. So lower reps with heavier weights is the way to go, right? 3 sets of 8 at the heaviest weight that I can handle?

Late reply I know, but I thought I would chime in anyway lol..To start off, a big *high five* for losing the weight you lost! And glad to hear you healed up some:). As for your target reps, Yes. Anything from 6-12 will benefit you the most in lean muscle gain. The reason why such a large window in the target rep scheme is because there are some people out there that will benefit more from doing 6-8 reps unlike from 8-12. And vice versa to 8-12. You just have to find whats best for you through trial and error. Experiment with it. And to add, applying a rep scheme also depends on the exercise you're doing. For example, if it's my triceps day, rep schemes for exercises like close-grip bench and tricep pull-downs are going to differ completely. Normally I'll hit 8-10 reps on close grip and then when I got started on pull-downs, I would aim my target rep from 15-20. It's all about finding the right stimulus to trigger muscle growth. But anyways, before I get carried away I'll stop here for now..lol

Whats your workout routine look like anyway?
