Some of the key points: Europe’s .EU domain is being hijacked! What happens when you match an inept registry with crafty businessmen? The answer is a really large scam. The requirements to be a .EU registrar were just too easy. There was a flaw in the process. It was too easy to create a registrar. A few sly companies, the most notorious being a company I’ll call company “X†– which is believed to be backed by North American mega-millionaires — saw a loophole in the process. These companies, instead of only registering their real active registrars, created hundreds of new "phantom" registrars. Two weeks before the landrush period began there were 800 — many real, many not — accredited .EU registrars. Then just before the landrush period began, Voila! Hundreds more registrars appeared. According to the EURid website – at least 300 more registrars appeared. Some legitimate registrars are claiming that the number of bogus registrars could even be much greater than this. These new phantom registrars were created to hijack the .EU landrush. It’s still not too late to fix the problem. It makes for some depressing but illuminating reading! http://www.bobparsons.com/EULandrushFiasco.html <edit>Write to your European Member of Parliament http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=73683
Why? 1: Because the european countries are more united by using the same currency namely the euro! This means when an .EU extension is added it emphysizes this even more. 2: Most good domains for the extensions .COM and such are already taken so this is (was) a opportunity to get a better suitable domain. 3: Everybody that wants to portrait a european presence now has the ability to do that. Even though Europe consists of various countries it can be basicly considdered as one big country since international treaties are more and more calibrated to each others needs to achieve a economic and stable european community. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I agree McFox this issue needs some massive attention and by reading the article of Bob Parson i think the reversal process is an option. But this will only be achieved if the masses speak up! I've seen numerous people on this forum that feel they where screwed over by the fake registrars that where solely created to swallow as many valuable domains. If you feel you want something to do about it then here is a chance to get this matter even more widely known among the public. The story is on Digg so if there are enough diggs i am sure this will blow up and get massive media attention so please guys take action since it doesn't take much to do a digg for this disturbing issue. Even if you have not applied for any .EU domains i am sure a lot of you can symphatize with this matter and also give a digg for this. Please DIGG IT
