BlueHost sucks these days

In the past, BlueHost is one of the best web hosting service provider around, providing users with low cost hosting service.

Over the past few months, I noticed that their services have deteriorated, especially with A LOT OF DOWNTIME! (apologise for my rant, but this is extremely frustrating with downtime issues).

Can anyone suggest a similar web hosting service like BlueHost (low cost, SSH support, but with a much reliable uptime), which Bluehost used to have in the past.

A few weeks ago, I had a chat with the BH Support Chat Line, the response is COMPLETELY unsatisfactory. Not to mention, that support personnel actually say 1-2 hours DOWNTIME! This is really disappointing.

I can't recommend any services with SSH support, but i can say that this is probably because they started overselling like all the other big brands. Watch out for them, and you will get a better service overall! :)

I've been using bluehost.com for about 8 months for my company's podcast service and for my private work. There were no issues besides the excessive downtime and server load problems.

but then out of no where, they emailed me 3-4 days ago and told me that I was using the hosting for "storage purposes". I told them that my podcast channels are very popular and visitors really demand even 1-year old episodes. But they didn't even listen to me. Then I asked them what I could do to host a podcast directory (delete files, buy another plan etc). They told me that I could not host podcast (!) files from their servers (yes, I made the representative say that!) and they have to cancel my service. I was very disappointed cause switching to a new company will be hard and time consuming. That's why I had made a comprehensive research before buying a plan from bluehost.

Well, what can I say... They are just like others. If you offer "unlimited" disk space and bandwidth, then you have to stand for your word and provide the service.

By the way, I'm looking for a reliable and powerful hosting plan? Does anyone have any suggestions?

    I need:
    disk space: 20GB
    bandwidth: 500GB/month

    Best regards,

Honestly, I prefer they don't offer "UNLIMITED" bandwidth or storage space, because what they are offering before "Unlimited" is already very good, e.g. 500TB bandwidth. Who can hit that, unless you're big online site?

I'm beginning to scout around for a better web-hosting company. To be honest, BlueHost is really disappointing. None of their personnel has spoken to me even I posted on DP, or on my blog. Even when I sent in a ticket requesting for support, all I get is, "... the servers are undergoing maintenance for 1-2 hours..."

That 1-2 hours can mean money! Doesn't those guys understand?

Actually this is the real explanation.

They could host my site when there were enough servers and resources, but now as the load increases they are probably "ditching" customers that are not profitable to them.

By the way, 8 months ago when I found bluehost, I tought they were a reliable company and so I decided to move my private work there too. Now, each time I make an ftp connection to one of my sites I fear that I'll recieve "user unknown" error. Maybe it's the best to move my own work to somewhere else too.

    And one last thing :)

I contacted godaddy yesterday and asked them if they would host my podcast directory giving them every detail about our needs. (no website just files etc) They first replied with a "sure", but then I replied back and told that I would keep the confirmation mail as an "evidence" for future needs. And wanted them to confirm again. They have been quite since then :D

I'll let you know how it goes.

problem with bluehost, bluehost problems, trouble bluehost trouble, bluehost does not provide what they offer, be careful about bluehost, bluehost too much down time

    I think that's enough :)

I also managed to pop by HostGator, which seems to offer an equivalent plan to what BlueHost does. However, I'm not sure if they offer SSH, which I feel is the prime thing to have for me now.

Yes, Bluehost has too much excuses these days! They should start retrenching Helpdesk personnel and focus on resources, instead of losing customers.
