    Hi,

I am getting Blue Screen on my Windows 2000 OS(on my old computer)

It says there may be some virus in it and asks me to run ChkDsk utility

How should I run Chkdsk utility? by safe mode?

Go to your command prompt and type chkdsk/f It will ask you to dismount the volume, type Y and restart your pc. It will start the chkdsk.

When I switch on the PC it goes directly to Blue Screen?

How to go into safe mode?

F3 or F8 -> chkdsk ( though, these commands/buttons can be different on various machines ).

It better to reinstall the machine.
chkdisk won't do anything if it a virus.
chkdisk is use to fix corrupt partition and mask bad sector.

You should check out, it great tools for keeping your pc clean Ghost and Faronics Deep Freeze.

"Virus" shows up every time when chkdisk is required ( which usually happens when you turn off your pc by removing it from electricity ), so - most probably it's not a big deal and he should try it before doing a clean install :)

I would say just reinstall your Windows 2000 O.S.

There is no chance of Virus But Couple of times I had shutdown it improperly ..

I think that may be the cause of it..

I guess that could be possible but I know quite a few people that do that plenty. Also if that is the case every time the power goes out with the computer on that would happen.

Is this still an issue for you or did you manage to fix it?

Actually your hard disk has some bad sectors that why you are getting blue screen frequently!

Bad sectors are physical failures of the disk, not software failures so reformatting your computer wont fix this. go for a low-level format on the disk, all bad sectors will be marked "good" again..
    Hopefully this will work!

    :)
