Matt I discovered Pingomatic a couple of days ago. I started a blog recently as I decided to create a website and learn about all the crazy 'in-thing' terms, blogs, rss feeds, adsense, xml, php, etc. I decided that I would 'diary' my learning - or attempt to learn about all this new stuff. Pingomatic is simply a way of telling the world that you have updated your blog. I guess some people update constantly and other updated hardly ever. As there are millions of trillions of blogs out there, it helps the blog sites that index the blogs if they know which have been updated so they can prioritse their visits. Take a look at my blog for more info. Hope this helps - and that I have got it right!
BAM! ...and then it was gone. So after proving that MSN will list your blogspot blog in the serps with my own blog, it then appears mine too has gone. Bizarrely, the top results from that search is now actually the search itself. The next two actually are linking to where the blog is hosted. And following that, someone generating a page from my RSS feed. But not blog itself.
I guess the lesson is to never say never, so to speak ... sorry about your listing. Is this but another item to add to the Bill Gates' list of conspiracy theories - there's always a way to twist it It'll be interesting to watch this phenom and see where it goes - it may also give us some insight into the ever-developing MSN algos.
Thanks SparkiMarki, That makes sense to me. I've seen a ton of blogs out there and a lot of them have the last psot dated four or five months ago, some even longer. So, this is a way for them to see who updates often. Cool. I update daily except weekends and I think Blogger has me on Ping-o-matic, but I'm not sure. Thanks again.
Update: My Blogspot Blog is finally being recognized by msn for the term Blog Party (on the bottom of page 1. Of course not a sought after keyterm, but an indication that it is now treated like a regular url. Seems to me that they have some kind of filter installed for free blogs from that url It happed around the time that our blog forum (in signature) reached #1 for Blog Forum and a week after setting up my wordpress blog
I just made a query http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?FORM=MSNH&srch_type=0&q=marketing+blog for marketing blog on msn and a couple of blogs from blogspot come out at the very top of the results...anyways just a few seem to be indexed... In my personal opinion Msn still sucks pretty much compared to Google which left it light-years behind...just my thought though...After all, even if things evolve and change, don't forget that Google was born to be a search engine...Microsoft to build OS... Scangilli
To answer Coolguy you can try to submit your blog to MSN from here...Hope you'll be luckier than I've been: http://beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx
I forgot to mention I was finally indexed, then dropped, then indexed, dropped again, but now I seem firmly entrenched. Very little traffic though, very, very little.
