Blogspot Sub-Domain or your own domain name?

For Search Engine Optimization purposes, is it better to have your own domain name hosting blogspot? Or is it better to use a blogspot sub-domain? I notice that blogspot does very good, SEO-wise, and I did not know if that was because of the blogspot sub-domain?

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Andy

Your own domain name looks professional, I've really never ment anyone who makes that much money off of blogspot blogs, but I'm sure they are out there.

It would definately look better if you used your own domain, and more professional. But if it's not in you budget, go ahead with the blogspot subdomain. It's better than nothing.

What lack of a budget? Domain names cost less than $10/year, and with advertising being a viable option on self-hosted blogs, the $5-10/month in hosting fees is nothing either. And if money's that tight, not going to McDonalds or Burger King even once a month will pay for the hosting by itself anyway.

Seriously - get your own domain and a self-hosted blog. It doesn't matter if you use WordPress, Movable Type, Textpattern or write your own blog/CMS publishing system. If you ever feel you have to move, you can take everything with you from your old hosting provider to the new one and not lose a thing (except maybe emails still sitting on the server, but that's what POP3 is for anyway). You can't do that if you're being hosted on someone else's Web site.

Thanks guys! I have plenty of domains, trust me ;) I was just curious to see if blogspot sub-domains rank better, faster.

I agree, especially since you have to share your adsense funds with Google. However, I'm just using blogspot to promote my store.

    Thanks again fella's

One advantage of blogspot is that you can list your blog directly to blogger's list, google blog search and weblogs.com. But SEO is your job, if you do not do your SEO perfectly you will not have a good notable PR whether you use your own domain or blogspot sub-domain.

i think blog-hosting companies do a better job at the seo thing, but what's the point of blogging at their site if you run the risk of having your blog deleted because a few of your posts violated their tos, which caused them to delete your account? you will have done all of it for nothing. as someone mentioned, hosting is dirt cheap. host it on your own site.

yeah in blogspot you can promote your store, sites also get rank..and its only limited... but it comes in a long time business and a long income, it is better to create your own domain, this will look nice and professional. high long profits :)
