Blogspot Spam Linking To My Site? WOW.

I was looking in webmaster tools today, and Google is listing thousands of blogspot blogs linking to my site. 99% of them are marked for spam so I cannot read them, but apparently Google found links to my site on the blogs.

Could someone be doing this to try to hurt my rankings and make it look like I spam blogspot?

"theoretically", spam sites linking TO you "should not" have a negative impact on your site, most likely the links are just not counted.

i sure hope so. I think the links aren't being counted since google seems to be deleting the spammer's blogs fast. But hopefully there's no punishment for that and Google is just dancing temporarily. :( My site is now on page 2 at #8, yet it's one out of 3 authority sites in the niche. A few spam results and sites with no links are above me... this is in a competitive niche too :(

I thought google wanted quality sites instead of a few pages stuffed with keywords. It seems recently that google has started ranking sites with the keywords in their domain much higher. So, new sites that have no real content are ranking higher than I am, even though my site is 100% dedicated to the keyword subject.

Google's stated policy is that no website can hurt another website, now I'm also 100% certain that you will find some who would emphatically disagree with that statement, but if you think about it, if another site could hurt yours, or vice versa, all you would have do do is spam other sites with your competitors links.

I know some SEO's who will swear that negative SEO works.. it's a debatable issue and one that Matt Cutts has addressed on occasion, although you can take any PR fro Google with a grain of salt.. but in this case I've seen only marginal evidence that negative SEO works..
