Blogs Vs. Forums

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by RTL, Sep 13, 2007.

I noticed from my time here that blogs are the kingdom of money. However, I'm not much of a blog person. I don't really have any die-hard interest in any narrow niche, and am much more of an authoritative person who enjoys administrative work rather than creative writing. So my question is, should I try out blogging? Or should I start a forum? And any advice on marketing/monetizing on a forum?

    start a forum its best
but u need to give more and more time in forums and also it depends on what topic you are planning to start a forum
forum is much clean as compared to blogs it has more features etc
    so i prefer forum
    cheers

IMO forums takes more time to develop and monetize than blog, blogs get index faster and with a blog you can start earning earlier as there are lot of scope with blog.

The nice thing about forums is that once they build momentum, you don't have much to do other than moderate and occasionally post.

Blogs are always ongoing (unless others write for you).

I like blogs more, and they get indexed faster than anything. I've had one of my blogs indexed in less than 48 hours after I've registred the domain name.
So my opinion is to go for the blog. Forums are harder to build.

Also I usually dont click on any ads on forums, but on blogs I've clicked a lot because there are many interesting ads from adsense.

Forums are harder to start. But once the forum gets going, your members generate the content for you.

I would try both too, you may start a blog and realize that you enjoy posting each day to give people a piece of your mind in a certain area. I have tried both myself and starting a qualtiy forum is a tough job, but is still possible of course.

Starting and maintaining a forum is what demands a lot of patience. You wont see results until and unless you have more than 10000 member atleast 25% of which are active. Then you can make a good money.

And to reach that point, probably you need upto 6 months of hard work and advertising.

Blogs are alot easier to setup & take alot less work to get going. Forums on the otherhand can produce tons of money once they start going.

Do both, do whatever. There's not a limit rule lol i've made loads of forums and a few blogs. Forums take alot longer to get big though as mentioned. It's a constant battle with a small forum keeping out spam bots so make sure you use good security.

Also, make content rich sites. Blogs and forums aren't the only option. I much prefer building quality niche content rich sites with quality design, there's lots of things to do. Be creative.

For a given level of monthly visitors, they make the same amount of money, but forums sell for about 15% more. I blogged about it at http://valueontheweb.com/blog/2007/09/13/forums-vs-blogs/

Ultimately though, you have to do something you enjoy, or you won't stick with it and you won't make much of anything.

forums you need to build up a community and get other people to actually post and stuff to make money

blogs you can just do it all yourself and not worry about getting people to comment in order to make money

but if you get a decent forum going, it can be worth thousands and you could be making thousands from selling advertising

I am a fan of blogs and own quite a number of monetized blogs. Search engines love both blogs and forums but talking about maintenance and managing, blogs are relatively easier to upkeep. So you may wish to go the route of blogs. In my free report, I discuss about very good resources for building autopilot blog empires.

Blogs are best. I had forum and it's hard to manage forum and moderators.

I personally think forums are better in the long run.
Nothings better then having users create content for you ;).
