There are so many variables to this meaning URL format etc but all things being equal they are probably about the same but I might give a slight edge to blogs simply because a blog is more likely to be more directly relevant to your niche meaning forums have many sub-forums that might be off topic for your niche whereas a blog is likely entirely about a particular niche.

Blogs are certainly easier to get SEO friendly, but both can be equally good.

Blogs seem easier to optimize for the search engines

For a second there i thought you were talking about the value of the backlnks from blogs vs forums

I'd go with Blogs too simply because it is almost like a website but updated more frequently with laser-targeted content which is what search engines are after! forums are great too simply because of the sheer amount of traffic, but I think blogs win over in quality in the eyes of the engines.

blogs in my opinion. I find forums can get out of date and run into maintenance issues and because redundant easier?

Blog is easier to manage, but forum is good for keywords because of a lot words from a lot unique IPs and things like that. But my suggestion is blog ;)
