Commenting on blogs that are related to yours is a good way to build back links, exposure and traffic. Do follow blogs worth more of your time because when that blog gets crawled the crawler will follow the attribute do follow and then visit your site. It also passes PR juice when page ranks update.

Blog commenting can't hurt your website SEO at all. DoFollow comments will improve your SERP over time. NoFollow comments have no impact on SERP.
You will find quite a few DoFollow Blog Lists here, just look around or use the search button ;)

IMHO, they are really not worth the time it takes to leave them. I say, just be honest, and if you read a blog post, leave a comment if you think it's necessary. Don't go out of your way to post thinks like: "Wow, great post" or something generic like that.

Remember, as much as we think we can outsmart search engines... they are already three steps ahead of you.

All links will help you out in the long run. People are lurking all over the internet and they might find your link on some run down old blog and then click on it. Who knows where your next visitor will come from? it's better to have links everywhere than none at all.

Blog commenting is the easy and fast way to get backlink, it wouldnt give negative impact to your website. However, nofollow will never provide you PR juice, try to look for the dofollow related niche to improve your PR and SERP.

Here is the dofollow blog list sample: http://blogbloging.blogspot.com/search/label/Dofollow Blog list

So, NoFollow blogs are worthless, because they don't help to improve PR and SERP. Am I right?

Some people say NoFollow blogs are worthless, others say this is just a myth. I couldn't say definitely yes or no but if you're going to put the effort into blog commenting then DoFollow seems to be the best choice. Sometimes you can get traffic from relevant, well placed comments though, and if that's the case, it doesn't matter if it's nofollow if it's sending you traffic. I would choose a nofollow comment on a relevant blog that sends me niche traffic over a dofollow comment on a less relevant blog. So I don't think they're worthless, it's just a matter of what you hope to achieve.

Please pardon my ignorance...but after having read several threads and seeing lots of references to "dofollow" and "nofollow" links without definition, could someone clue me in as to what this means?

I presume it has something to do with the nature of the link codes embedded in your signature by the host's software? Some attribute on an HTML link? Or am I way off-base?

    Thanks.

    Hi

Blogs commenting is a good way to get backlinks, if blogs are dofollow. Post good quality comments on your niche blogs which are dofollow. Be sure Commenting on blogs with your anchor text which you are targeting.

The owner of the blog can choose whether to have the comments on his/her blog do follow or no follow by how he codes his sites.

No follow means that any comments you make on the blog that have a link to your website are "no follow" and they will not be indexed by google, thus giving you no benefit from a back link standpoint.

Do follow is just the opposite. If you comment on his blog, leave a link to your website, the google spiders will follow that link to your site and you will get a back link from that post. That is why it is necessary if you want a back link from a blog comment that the site be do follow, otherwise the link is only seen by those who actually visit the blog and see your link, minimal traffic value IMO!
    HOpe this helps

This is so far from the truth.

Nofollow is a misnomer in reality. The definition of Nofollow:

The way the specification is drawn up has no bearing on whether they can follow the link to the other side or not. While Google emphatically denies they will not follow the link, lets get real here -- they are in the business of indexing the web and not following a link goes against the grain.

Sirric, you are the only sane individual in this thread. This is exactly how you should concentrate your efforts. And it does not matter if it is dofollow or nofollow.

Your visitor traffic is a side-benefit from those links. Another would be to actually communicate with the blog owner, and have them take notice. You may start getting links within their posts later down the road, and that is what all should strive for.

This chasing of dofollow blogs and commenting with one-liner 'fortune cookies' is spam. A blog that does not moderate their comments and report it as spam (via Akismet) is only hurting themselves. And when the quality of the blog goes down, so does the value of your spammed link.

I think it is one of the best way to improve your linking from good sites. You should comment by asking question to get noticed and also excellent complements.
