All backlinks count as backlinks. But if you're after increasing your pagerank you need links from pages with a high rank.

Here's an article on getting quality backlinks.

    How To Get BackLinks

Here's an article on how the pagerank is determined and why high-quality links are more important than low quality ones.

Most blog's add the "nofollow" tag to outgoing links in comments, so they don't normally count towards your ranking at all. It can still bring in traffic, however.

prismmb - almost all blogs use the ref=nofollow tag. Google claims to ignore any links that include this tag, so unless you're commenting on a blog that doesn't use the nofollow tag (this is rare), they won't help your ranking/PR.

That said, commenting on blogs is a great way to get visitors to your site, particularly if it is relatively new.

to know if the blog add the "nofollow" tag go to "view source" and see the previous comment url followed with nofollow or not.

Each post and signature appears on a different page (unless you post twice in the same thread in quick succession) so they're separate links from separate pages. That'll be why people are willing to pay so much for them - some people on here will pay $100 for the signature link of a well established, prolific poster.

CountryBoy - are you talking about blogs or forums? I think the question was in specifically in regards to blogs (although I could be mistaken).

Hmm your sources are false. I don't want to go into a PR debate here as we already have one but PR does not have any effect on ranking in google.

    On your inbound links guide:
I hate people who do that. Post what you think personally don't use someone elses words or knowledge.

And wrong all backlinks do NOT count as links. They are not all valued. Nofollow links are not valued in Google.

And I am with infonote on this one. If you make a constructive comment you cna build up your reputation and can gain some good traffic from other webmasters who might link to you.

No-follow links do not count. Page Rank is not everything. If you post a constructive comment, however you might get traffic just the same.

Applies if you can add value to the post with comments.

I think you should not waste your time commenting on others posts. Just make a network of blogs and have your links embedded in the blog posts. That's really worth a lot to google.

And in addition, make sure your anchor text is good and also use the title attribute.

I have posted my own blog on other people's blog and I have gotten decent amount of traffic from these websites. But yes you do get backlinks for commenting on other peoples blogs.

Not true. You can become an authority by commenting on blogs assuming you know what your doing and your comments are constructive.
