Blogs as backlink source without signature/resource?

Hello - this is, I'm sure, a naive question, and if it's been answered, I'm sorry for the redundancy (I searched, and saw info on blogging and backlinks, but didn't see anything specifically on blogs with or without linking signature blocks).

I understand the value of blogs as a means to contribute to the web, and understand how proper feeds and relationships make this all the more so. Through much help on this board and on Wordpress, I recently created my blog, with permalinks (knock on wood), I believe, working, feeds submitted for SE indexing, and hooked up via sites like technorati and feedburner.

My question is this. When it comes to backlinks, if there are no links in the blog itself, or in a standard signature or resource area (as with article submissions), how does one receive the backlinks I've read happen with blogging? Is it via the blog permalink title itself?

To that end, is it considered bad form to include a link or two to one's site in the body of the blog post - say, at the end, in a profile, which includes your website and a link to something to within the site? I've seen many blogs where nothing is there but the post itself, and the post i.d. info - but no links of any kind. Given that, I don't understand how blogs aid in backlinking.

    Thanks,

    Paul

I think you could include a link to your site and profile if you were writing a group blog (i.e. more than one member is posting on the same blog).

IMO it would get annoying to see that same profile over and over again. However, if it's tiny and unobtrusive people may not even notice it.

It really is up to you. Remember you can add a link to your site in the sidebar.

But it's your blog, and you decide.

Thanks, Skinny - I'm talking about the blog posts which go out, not my site itself - if the idea is that the posts are pinged all the time, is this how people talk about getting backlinks from blogs?

But I agree, it would be really annoying to have a lot of link info on the post. I did notice on your blog (and many others) the permalink button on the comment data line. Can you tell me how to add this?

That could be one way . . but a more effective way to get backlinks is to do link exchanges with similar blogs . .or if you get a lot of traffic, people will just link to your blog.

    Thanks again.

Can you tell me how to add the "permalink" hyperlink along the bottom of your comment - next to the comment or post info?

My title is a permalink - but I would like to make it easier for people to see the permalink...
