Do blogs really bring traffic from search engines?

Artiles are picked from different sources, so content is not original.
How then blogs receive a lot of search engine traffic?

If you have a blog you should be writing your own content, not copying from others.

I think you tried to mean every blog picks up article from internet??? It is not so...some blogs do, but many don't, they input their own original articles...And yes, some blogs have lots and lots of traffic from G,Y and MSN and other search engines...

I maintain three blogs full-time and a few more on the side (do any of us have the time for all the projects running in our head?) The bulk of my traffic is all organic search engine traffic.

Granted it is all unique (or as unique as I can make it!) content. I always say.. People love blogs. Google loves blogs. If you're not blogging you should be.

No, unless you're putting a lot of effort into a project like this, you probably won't get tons of traffic just reprinting articles.

All the successful blogs create unique content.

    I can't understand on-page optimization of blogs.
Normal websites usualy have a lot of sites that all point to the main site.

Blogs don't have a lot of sites, just a lot of articles. But this articles don't point to your main website? Or do they?

Oh and you always recommend that each page has it's own optimization (meta tags,..). How can you do this on blog?

Sure they can, just have it link back to the main site. Besides, articles are good optimization because it's linkbait.

Blogs have the option to include keywords. if it doesn't I'm sure there is a plugin or mod for that specific blog software.

thanks for answer. I understand now. But I was thinking if i would create such blogs software that each comment would be acctualy a new website. This would give your site higher PR, wouldn't it?

No, a website is a website. For a seperate website you need a new domain or subdomain.

No I wasn't thinking in that why.
Each comment would be like blog post. And more posts you have, more of them are linking to you homepage->higher PR.

I'm currently using serendipity but wordpress is probably more popular at present. I'm probably missing some equally popular projects but they are the two that spring instantly to mind. They're both based on PHP and MySQL.

Whatever blog you decide to use take a good luck at the available plugins, there is an amazing amount of functionality you can add very easily. Some have already been mentioned (meta tags for instance) but other options include adsense banners, links to related books at amazon, support for podcasts etc.

Something you should definitely look into is preventing spam comments, again there are plenty of plugins available to help you in both the projects mentioned.

If I didnt post in this, I would have to hurt myself.

    Blogs are great.

They are used to spread your ideas.

Its been said, people and se's love them.

They change all the time so they get spidered more often.

They can create income over time with unique content.

Dont use other people content because it will hurt your blog. (in my experience)

You can use it to advertise you site. Google sees them fast. Faster then other links even if they are new!

If i write a short description of an article (not my article) and use similar sentences to article ones would this be duplicate content?

Let's say an article has 100 sentences and I use sentences number 25,28,50,72,85 for my article (and add only 1 or 2 my sentences)

I really wouldn't think that was a problem, even if the duplicate content was detected it is clear who the originator is.

yes unique contents are king, but sometimes copied traffic works too . for example news stories /quotes ..for same news you may get millions of results ... however i have never used copied contents on my blog .
