Blogs and code for ads

I just created a website in which I want to have google ads running up the right frame. Put in the code and all I get is a google search box. What am I not getting here? I thought that google would use the web content in the posts and put in adds related geographically to the topic and also find sites that are actually businesses like ebay and euphorbia flower if that's what I'm talking about. Am I completely off base here?

Sometimes you have to give it awhile to setup.

Definitely, patience. If it's still not showing after 24 hours, you might want to ask someone to check your site to be sure you added the code properly.

if you get a google search box, then you must have added the code for adsense for search. if you need relevant ads, then you need to select ad unit or link unit, not search box

Still have not got any ads running, simply a search box. And this is after 48 hours. I am impressed with this forum given so many willing replies. Trouble is, unless you're entirely familiar with how this works, it's gibberish to me. This is a website I've just begun, not a blog, 'cause I'm practicing with css tho know that a blog is faster to maintain. This is going to be static pretty much. To upload photography of garden in progress, record local garden detail and such. Will be on skype at awhartonj24 for this eve.

Good website Charles, that's what I'd like to do, get icons for the products and services on my site similar to yours. How did you learn to do that?

hey nonny, here's what my page looks like. which should I choose? I don't want for mobile, necessarily so it's confusing. I'd give you a screenshot but the forum rules won't allow it!!

I don't know what your site is. However, it is usual to put Adsense for Content on your site.

It usually takes time for this stuff, I know that's how it was when I first placed my ads. Just give it a bit, and if nothing try removing and re-adding the code.

It says ads for content then mobile. Well, I'm doing a webpage for internet not mobile. So, why wouldn't it be the first option and clearly stated. Could you please have a look at the adsense page for making the sign up from scratch and tell me which to choose? I can't post a screenshot here as images are verboten till I have earned some cred on the forum I guess.

    - Log into your Adsense account

    - click on the Adsense Setup tab. There should be five choices:
    -- Adsense for Content
    -- Adsense for Search
    -- Adsense for Feeds
    -- Adsense for Domains
    -- Adsense for Mobile Content

    - if you don't have a mobile site, click on "Adsense for Content"

    - follow the directions

thanks nonny, that was very clear and I thought I did that. It worked in a regular webpage right at the bottom before the closing tags, but since I've changed to a blog it gets more difficult. now I'm using wordpress, siteground cpanel, go into the wordpress folder but don't know which of the wordpress folders are where I should put the code. Do you use firefox webdesigner to view code and thereby discover where it is to be put?

Right, just found that out. Ad Buttons has no explanation of how to do anything. Where do people get their images from for buttons? I use Jing to get a screen capture, upload the pic to media folder, grab the url put in the url hyperlink then ta dah!! Zero! Right now I'm using AdSense Deluxe which at least has a video to explain how to put the code in and where. Which would you recommend? And where do people get the buttons?
