Mhm - However utilizing Google's Adsense Rotator feature combats this easily - besides you can also offer incenetives to people to post, such as removing Ads at X posts. This in effect, tantalizes a usual guest who doesn't post to get off his lazy ass.
You could also open up a "Subscribe Now for $X- and receive the following benefits" and among them are "No Ads" or "Shared Ad Revenue"

There are a lot more things to write about but thats my 2 cents.

    Peace,

I would say blogs, quicker to get one moving, can feed traffic through to one better.

How about both? Create a Blog - fix it up, create a forum to compliment it and presto. Thats what I did,

Video blog- easy to setup- I've had good results with it. People love video. Then go with a forum.

It's easier to make $$$ with a blog. Forums are A LOT OF WORK. Like serious amounts of work and why would anyone want to bother registering and starting meaningful discussions when none exist? It's sweating it out solo for a long long time. Deleting spam on days where no one even posts. Eventually if you stick with it and are lucky it starts to pick up. Even then you still don't have a monetization method really... Most forum goer's aren't the types who typically click on adsense ads when looking for a solution...

With a blog depending on the niche, your level of knowledge and personality; you can build really quickly... If you're the #1 source or at least a great source w/ your own spin on something people are searching you can work stuff.

That being said it also really depend on your niche. You could be in one where you sell 1000 units to pull in $10,000 or one where you move one unit and make $1900... who knows really except forums take a lot of work and you really have to be into it for personal satisfaction to make it work.

    Hope that helps!:D

The posting to remove ads as an incentive does not monetize your forum. (At least not directly)

I also currently co-administer a forum with over 113k 'active' (according to vB) members and the premium feature (with No Ads) earns only a few hundred a month. Of course, this is dependent on the niche and bonus features that you're offering... but nonetheless, it's still a lot harder to monetize a forum.
