Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and blogging in general. I am looking to develop my domain name, www.links.com. Right now it is parked at NameDrive.com and I asked my son, who is attending the University of Illinois, Champaign, if he is interested in develoming the domain with me and he expressed interest in starting a blog around the topics of games, music, and other topics that are interesting to young adults (e.g. dating, travel). Right now links.com gets about 700 unique visitors a day and I am hoping that we can create a blog that will retain visitors for monetization purposes. I have done some research and it seems that, given my very limited knowledge of XHTML, CSS, and other Web development tools, Wordpress is probably the most appropriate software for my purposes, but other products such as TextPattern and ExpressionEngine may also be reasonable solutions. I welcome any opinions on this matter. Also, if Wordpress is appropriate, I was looking at themes that might be appropriate for advertising, including Adsense advertising and that were also SEO optimized. It seems that the one at: http://www.monetizingtheweb.com/wordpress-theme-mw/ may be appropriate, but any recommendations as far as themes are concerned would also be very much appreciated. You are on the right track using Wordpress and that theme looks fine. Just have a pro customize / personalize it for you a bit.

I also recommend wordpress. Check out http://www.semiologic.com/solutions/sem-theme-pro/ Great SEO friendly template that you can do pretty much anything with. The blix theme is another very good one http://www.kingcosmonaut.de/blix/. My merchant account blog is using blix that I did further customization on, and I really like it. Very nice domain name as well. You may want to target link buying or other SEO related topics with this site. You would be able to rank that domain fairly easy for any link related search terms, and because of the ease of ranking, you would be able to draw more traffic and get more revenue from your advertisers. 700 uniques a day should also get you a decent paycheck right from the start.
