So after looking at a couple of blogs for sale in the other section on dp I got to thinking I might try my hand at spamming the internats with my own blogs and then try to monetize them with adsense. It also got me thinking, what is a better platform to blog from, paid or free? With wormyrant.blogspot.com I won't pay the tiny domain registration fee of $10 or so and get a free spot ready to blog but can I monetize it just as well as I would be able to monetize my own domain of wormyrant.com? How about SEO and visibility. Do blogspot blogs start out with a little advantage there in exposure? And regarding adsense revenue...does blogspot take a cut of your ad revenue? I see a lot of professional bloggers with their own domains but I see quite a few under worpdress.com and blogspot.com as well so just wondered, what are the pros and cons of each for people who want to blog for profit?
one advantage of using blogspot for creating your blog: if you are still going to apply for an adsense account, it will be much faster to get google's approval than if you have your own blog domain. Ismael Tabije www.BestManagementArticles.com
If you want to spam the net with a lot of blogs, use Blogger. They have good SE power, so you won't have to spend as much time building links.
Not needed, I already have an adsense account and it was quite easy to get. I think google is the easiest publisher to be accepted by. Ok that is my weakness right now, I just don't have a good grasp of how SE rankings really tie together with domain visibility and free lunches. I need to read up more about SEO, a lot more. You sure about that? How does blogger.com make any revenue then just by providing free webspace? I just don't comprehend the business model.
Really depends on what type of site you are trying to build. Having your own domain name adds credibility to a site in my opinion. Plus gives it that unique identity. If you are looking to sell the site at some point in the future - much easier to sell a site without a .blogspot name... Might as well do this from the beginning so you don't have to convert to a domain later on. Just my 2 cents.
I think that if you are serious about blogging you will pay the couple of dollars for a domain and hosting. To be honest I dont read blogs using blogger.
Ya, but if you are just spamming the web with MFA and affiliate sites, you don't need return visitors. Also, if you haven't had any marketing success yet, you wouldn't want to spend a ton of money on domain names when many won't be successful, which is what you would do if you were spamming the web.
I always use my own domain, and I'll tell you why... 1) I'm an asshole and I like control over everything, makes my job easier. 2) The less influence big G has over my sites (and my life) the better... if you are like me than you like to barge in, cause as much destruction as possible, and get out with your money. Unfortunantly I (Like many other people) have been "flagged" and shut down from blogger, say bye bye bloggy. All they can do with MY OWN blog is deny me SE placement, woo freakin' doo, at least my blog is still active, and my readers are still reading. Personally, I see better SE results from hosting my own blog w/ wordpress anyway... so G can kiss it.
For serious projects use your own domain + hosting. If you just want to play around with AdSense or try a few things - Blogspot is OK.
depends on your site objective. if you want a professional blog with long term goal, then go with your own domain name. if you dont care about branding, then use blogger account
An actual domain definitely adds credibility if you're planning to get serious with your blog. Back in my naive days, I started out with a blog on stand-up comedy, hosted by WordPress' domain. I wrote an article criticizing Dane Cook and it ended up getting #8/9 (can't remember) on Reddit. After finding out I couldn't add AdSense to WordPress hosted blogs, I gave up figuring I wouldn't be able to make any revenue off it. There isn't much of a lesson for you in particular to learn since you aren't going to be hosted by WordPress' domain, but if your blog ends up getting big, you're going to have to transfer all those users to a new domain eventually. You may as well just skip the whole mess and shell out the couple bucks. It's really not that much. You can get a .com for pretty cheap. Be sure to check out promo codes for wherever you register your domain. I know GoDaddy.com only charges $7.15ish (with tax) for .com registration if you enter "OYH3" as a promotional code.
Definitely get your own domain and start a blog with Wordpress. Blogger is unprofessional, uncustomizable, and often ugly. You may get approved to Adsense or not have to pay fees at first, but once you start blogging with a real domain you will realize the true rewards.
Now that makes perfect sense, the mystery is gone now. Google being a monopoly probably realizes chances are adsense will be used on the blog anyway. I'm a total noob to blogging. My guess is I will probably end up with both paid domains and free blogger/wordpress subdomains since not all of my future blogs are going to be on the same topic. I really have nothing more than a vague idea about what I want to do at this point. The idea is just to create various spammy article sites/blogs on various niches like technology, weightloss, vitamins, politics or anything I can yap about and then drive traffic to those articles with the hope that adsense ads would get clicked. Of course I would make the sites a lot bigger than one page so as not to get em tagged as MFA scams. How to market and SEO them is another issue altogether my noobness in that department will take a bit of time to go.
