Hi all- I'm contemplating an informal partnership with a content provider. We are talking about a 50/50 split (technically, he would probably get a 50% commission from me). I would set up the blog, handle the backend, advertising, affiliates, SEO, etc. But everything we will do is geared towards future revenue. One post/review can bring in $ for years to come. What should we do if one person drops out? Should the 50/50 split continue for a year? Any suggestions?
Personally, I would set it up so that when they stop contributing, they stop earning revenue. But, I'm an ass. The ideal way would be to assign channels to each article the partner creates, this way no matter how long down the road you can still track what revenue they have earned your site. And, split it accordingly.
The other person would be writing all posts; I would be doing the rest (advertising, etc.), so I don't think that model is workable. It's all complicated by the fact that he owns the domain, which is quite valuable IMHO. At some point, he may want to take it over entirely (for retirement income), but I don't want to work on it until that day and then not receve any revenue. As I said...
