get a lot of incoming links and create a lot of unique, original content. that just about does it and you should see a lot of traffic -- if you pick the right niche. as far as permalinks go, just make sure to have the postname in it and you will be fine.
Can you look at the following blog: http://www.redscowl-bluesingsky.us/ I am NOT asking you to review the website, just give me a few tips or pointers on making it a better Google friendly page for SEO.
somewhere in there add %postname% to the permalink structure to your url structure shows the post name with the slug.
Thanks, I thought I did that already, but I noticed I didn't! Is there anything else I can do to improve my blog?
again, nope, that's all I can recommend for the time being. make sure you have meta tags (not really used, but nice still.) and that should do it..
Meta tags are good. One quick and easy way is to use the google sitemaps. The download I used for mine is at http://www.arnebrachhold.de/2005/06/05/google-sitemaps-generator-v2-final. IT actually got me indexed in about a week. Not that we are showing up for much yet. Every page got cached though so I guess thats good. Oh and make sure you titles are nice too. They normally look like "MY Blog >> Category >> Article Title. You want that article title first. I use the Optimal Title plugin at http://elasticdog.com/2004/09/optimal-title/. These are two useful tools so I think the links would be good.
Yeah, add some Meta tags, it would be fine. I have this on my blog for titles: <title><?php if(is_single() or is_page() or is_archive()) { wp_title(); echo ", "; bloginfo('name'); } else { bloginfo('name'); echo " "; bloginfo('description'); } ?></title> PHP: Its similar to Optimal Title plugin. Create a sitemap.xml for googlesitemaps and sitemap.txt for yahoo!siteexplorer. ... get income links, its easy with a blog, trackbacking other blogs and posting about daily things but with your own content/text. Dont Copy/paste.
Alright thanks guys!! Also, I will start the pinging AFTER my Search Engine Optimization methods are done. I will add the title and stuff now! Thanks! Any other suggestions?
This dpeneds on what you want to do with it. Wordpress is a great straight blogging software that allows you to make changes and do things fairly easily. Typepad is very close to it. Joomla and Mambo are more CMS than just blogging but can make some killer blogs that look like no other. Blogger is great too, you get indexed quick but it has some major limitations. I will point you towards my blog on blogs that reviews most fo the major software stuff out there. Its at http://blizzardinternet.blogs.com/. Hope it helps you make you decision.
