Hi. I bought a domain and hosting my own wordpress. I installed a custom theme
    http://themes.wordpress.net/columns/2-columns/715/water-10/

With the free wordpress, I would be able to have a front page.

With this theme, there is no front page option:confused:

Can anyone help me out? I wanna use the front page as a landing page.

    Thanks!

I think you need to install wordpress into a sub directory and have the index page in the main root folder.

For example going to yourdomain.com would show the main page and boucing to the blog could go to blog.yourdomain or even yourdomain.com/blog/

http://www.mattcutts.com/ is a perfect example, although he has very basic index page.

hmmm thats interesting. That's an option I didn't think of.

You know with a wordpress, the readers can be directed to any static page in the blog that the admin wants? How do you do that?

I used to able to do it with my free wordpress but can't with my hosted one.

strykers12, there's Static Front page plugin and few other tutorial can let you do that.

If you wanted an option like on free WordPress assuming wordpress.com, you have to use WordPress 2.1[1] instead of 2.0.5 which is still in alpha. It's not recommended if you are beginner.

    Before you do that...

I'm not sure I understand you correctly but maybe this will help. If you are trying to make a non blog page as your main page you simply need to name it index.html .html will take precedence over the index.php and you can link to your blogs main page by linking to the /index.php

You can change the blog address in your WP-Admin under "Options" to the index.html if you want the home links in the blog to point to it also.

    Hope this helped.

If I'm not wrong the name of the plugin that you're looking for is called "static page plugin".

Personally I put my blog on my domain & a newsletter with opt-in box on a sub folder, eg. domain.com/newsletter

Looks good, must give it a whirl. I use their other plugin SEO Title and it works a treat.
