Hi to all. I have read so many newbie-needs-help threads here in the Blogging section, so I decided to compile the frequently asked questions here. Feel free to add something that you think should be here and I have not covered. Q: I'm starting a new blog, should I go for a free blog host (like wordpress.com) or should I buy my own domain and pay for a hosting plan? A: A paid plan is always better because you can have more control over your stuff. You can put ads, write about (almost) whatever you want, place affiliate links in posts, choose what theme to use. I highly suggest going for a paid hosting plan, spending $2-5/month wouldn't empty your pocket. Q: How do I get the FeedBurner subscribe by e-mail form? A: Sign-up for a FeedBurner account first. Go to your feed, then to "Publicize", then on the left sidebar, click "Email Subscriptions". Activate than and there you have it! Q: What topic should I blog about? A: Basically, it will be easy to blog if you write about your interests. You will not have to think sooo hard about your next post since you know a lot about the topic. Q: Should I put ads once I have the blog set-up? A: If I were you, I wouldn't put ads at first simply because no one's there to click/view them yet. And another thing about ads, you might give your future readers a bad impression that you're just there to make money. But if you insist, no one's stopping you from putting ads. Q: Should I allow comments? A: Definitely. Who wants to write without getting some feedback from the readers? Q: Should I get a custom design? A: Once you have the budget, consider getting a custom theme for your blog. This will help you establish a brand on the net. Q: Which host do you recommend for a blog? A: Personally, I recommend using DownTownHost (if you're feeling kind, PM me for an affiliate link) simply because the rates are affordable and the support is awesome.
