Bloggeries Needs a New Home!

I'm looking for a new home. Lot's of facebook apps coming out and more things that require CPU power. I'm getting timeouts.

    http://www.bloggeries.com and http://www.bloggeries.com/forum

I was with ThePlanet but we could never get some of my databases transported properly. The entire site backup worked but then always got time outs restoring msql databases through cpanel.

Basically it's on a shared hosting now and getting time outs. I don't want to have to move again and for a long time so looking for something GOOD that I can also GROW into.

Any suggestions? (PLease don't just come here and suggest YOUR place; your too biased ... Know what I mean).

Well for those, you can consider well managed VPS from www.Knownhost.com with great fast support anytime you need it. Start out with VPS with them and as you grow, upgrade to their hybrid servers or grab a dedicated server from well known reputable companies (no need a dedi yet).

You may also wish to consult with sales of KH (fast reply) to see if your sites can be hosted without trouble in their normal plans by giving your site stats and the laods you have seen with prev host.
because who knows, there are hosting companies out there not being honest with their servers or real resource limit and maybe thats why you are getting timeouts and problems.

Posting here or in the freewebspace.net/forums site are good places to look for hosts meeting your needs.

That said, though many places may offer a VPS, I can offer a 'shared' hosting account that technically doesn't have any resource limits so load wouldn't be a problem. You'd be on a dual quad-core Xeon with 8 GB RAM and fast unmetered connection. I'm not sure what you need in terms of space and bandwidth and whatnot, but I'm sure we could work something out. And with whatever plan you get, you have the ability to grow without extra charge (to a certain extent).

Restoring your backups would be easy through a shell/ssh interface so that's not a problem.

If you are interested, please PM, email, or IM me. I'm online most of the day. Thanks. :)

    What is your budget?

Also maybe you've outgrown a shared environment? Alexa rankings aren't everything but your rank of 23,000 you probably get quite a bit of traffic. So at this point I'd hope you are making enough money that you could afford $150/month for a dedicated solution.

They are offering good powered servers for facebook devs. Have a look in their dev zone. The first year is free, then they start charging you.

Edit its from joyent.com what i saw

Basically we do get decent traffic.

    Feb from AwStats:

    ~531,097 page views a month
    ~3,634,729 hits a month
    ~20 Gigs of BW

but the real issues is the facebook apps. I haven't even advertised them yet. I have many in stock. Bandwith is an issue but not so much. I want something that will be able to do all the computations for hopefully ~500- a few thousand facebook users on a few apps. Also we have blog polls. We rank well for them but they need a facelift. Once on a new server I am totally upgrading them which I know will increase usage.

Finally I host other sites as well and have been contacted by some news outlets and other large corporations to create some content which will be distributed to their mailing lists. I need something that can handle my daily usage as well as a sudden server spike. I"ll be d@mned if I get the attention I want and I get a "server overload" or whatever message. I also want a place that I won't have to change anytime soon. I hate doing this with a passion.

I was paying $150 at the planet. I was happy except their tech support was nice but I found inept. Also I couldn't for the life of me do database restore which I"ve done before. I was starting to loose my mind! I'd like to pay around there or less like ~80$ if possible. Bottom line is I need something that can hold me now and hopefully for a year.

Also I plan on hosting a few others on this dedicated.

    I also need CPANEL.

Any ideas? Also I'm only looking for places with serious support who are serious about hosting. Not someone who does it in their basement and outsources. (I've done that too I know how it works). I need something legit and I'm willing to pay. I just want best value for my money; know that I'm *safe* and someone I can trust for hopefully a long long relationship.

Any ideas of what kind of home I need? For this type thing would a 1.6GHZ machine suffice with 512 or do I need 2+ with 1G of ram?

    Cheers!

That is basically just for the apps though right? I need a solution for my whole site.

We have dedicated's but we don't actually physically own the machines and just resell them and offer more of a hands on experience then our provider does. So we can help with linux related questions and problems with cPanel and such which a lot of providers do not handle for you anymore.

If you want you can throw us an email and we can work something out. Maybe some form of a semi-dedicated solution or something that would meet your needs. It sounds like you don't need root access or anything of that nature it's just a matter of having the server resources.
