Hopefully this is the correct place for this thread.

In terms of getting my blog seen and (hopefully) indexed by Google am I better off using a blogger type site hosted by Google or normal website with a word press blog?

Also does Google actually index and rank blogger blogs?

I respectfully disagree with Maximise. (And we pull in 700K visitors a month from our blogs, so I'd like to consider myself an expert in this topic)

While you can do a lot more with a self-hosted Wordpress site than with Blogger, when it comes to SEO, there's no real difference. It all comes down to how you SEO your theme.

We have a site on Blogger that's got a VERY well optimized theme, and the site has a small number of backlinks. This site gets over 30K visitors a month. What brings the visitors? Good content.

Same token, we have a well optimized Wordpress site that isn't updated quite as much, and it's lucky to see 3K visitors a month.

Heck, we have one site that used to get 50-60K visitors a month while on Blogger, and we made the mistake of migrating the site to Wordpress. Almost a year later, and we still don't get as much traffic as we used to, despite our best efforts to make the transition seamless. (And the Blogger site had a domain name, so backlinks weren't affected)

So at the end of the day, it's really up to you. But one benefit of Blogger - No bandwidth worries. :)
