I think WordPress.org might be too difficult for me to use right now. Blogger is easier to use, but I don’t think Blogger is going to be able to do what I want it to do, allow anyone to register as an author. Is there something in between that can allow anyone to register as an author?

Wordpress is good for more advanced bloggers. Blogspot/Blogger is best for start-up bloggers. Despite being in the blogging business for over 7 years, I still use Blogspot for my blogs and Wordpress for professional websites like Games, News etc.

Wordpress is the best solution and I have clients who are not web savvy and who have been successfully using it, after I showed them how it's done. I can't believe people still waste time with a crappy set up like blogspot. If you want a site to be successful or at least look like something that's seriously though about, just get a small hosting plan and install wordpress. There are millions of articles about running a WP site, I can't really believe that in 2014 people are still apprehensive about using it, since they're scared it's too 'difficult :D

I think it is not about being its "too difficult" thing, most of the people who started blogging have little to invest. So, the most economical is spending $10-$13 on a domain name and using blogspot as a platform. I a lot of people who uses Blogspot and making anything between $500-$2,000 per month. (If you want to meet some of them, you can send me pvt msg... if i post here it will be like pomoting them)

Blogging is not just about designs or features, it is more about what you have to offer for your readers.

I know what you're saying and am not trying to contradict (too much) your ideas. If they make money from their blog, they can surely afford 5 bucks/month as a small hosting plan costs at Bluehost or Hostgator :D

Anyway ... everybody knows better how they want to blog. I tried blogspot for 3 minutes back in 2006 and immediately went on and installed wordpress on a domain. It was too bad for my liking and my needs.

Well, I prefer Wordpress, personally,as it enables me to customize my blog according my views. I found Blogger too much limiting, because I didn´t want to use their themes and wasn´t able to find functional SEO plugins there. If you want to read more about my experince with different blogging platforms, read my post: http://johnnyiron.com/choosing-a-blogging-platform/

My first blog site is from blogger, transferred to wordpress mainly because of adsense. But with all the improvements of wordpress, wordpress is far more better than blogger now.

If you're starting go for blogger and when feel like a champ move to self hosted wordpress... It's easy.. you do lose some traffic after moving but that is for 1-2 months only so google can reindex ur blog.. the loss is not great.. about 20-30% max.. and it's worth it.

that is how I started. also starting blogger blog means quick indexing by google of your content .. :) 80% of my blog content was indexed in just one month.. and every new post was getting index in 2-3 days.. ;)

I would say Wordpress ( For both Self Hosted or Non Self Hosted ). As it has better themes and tools. And it is very good with SEO too. Also there is huge community around it and issues are dealt more transparently.

Theming for Wordpress is easier and more fun, if you are the Do It Yourself type.
