Wordpress.com has restricted features. But if you are new, try that and then go on to hosting WP on your own server,.

I had a terrible experience with blogger. Aside from it's slow response, it is almost always down too the past few months. I am currently in the process of importing my blogger to wordpress now.

You only need to pay for your own domain and hosting :) That is all what differentiates a free one from a paid one. You get more advantages with your own domain....

Yeah, that is right. In Wordpress, you have to pay for your domain name and the hosting, which is not too big when you see all the benefits that it provides in SEO.

Let's just say it in this way.

If you're just starting a Blog site and you're more in the Experimental Stages, I'd advise you to go with Blogger as it will save you money, plus it gives you the leisure of doing more Experiments with Keywords, Google robot's reactions to your updates, and numerous blog sites (different subdomains) and niches.

But if you're expanding for a better and bigger traffic; and if your going Advanced in Blogging, then it would be best for you to use WordPress, as it will give you some new heights to your needs.

    Cheers!

Having your own domain and server is always best if your server is secure enough. It gives flexibility!

Wordpress is also free. You can have something like yourname.wordpress.com! And that's free.

Personally prefer WordPress, think that paying for own hosting and domain will pay for itself looking at SEO performance,

As a newbie, I do prefer to go for blogger, as it is not only free, but also supports adsense and can do ore experiments with the keywords (after all it is free...). But I was told that wordpress is having good patronage among SEO professionals.

Yes but you are restricted on what can be placed onto the blog and you can be banned if used for commerical purposes.

At least with Blogger you can hack the crap out of the code and slap ads on it.
