Blogger.com questions!

    Hello!
I got blogger for some days ago and thought it looked nice. I saw a lot of other blogger blogs before and they looked nice. But when I got my own blog there it just didnt work as I thought it would. There where many functions everyone used that isnt in the Blogger.com from the beginning, you simply have to add it for your self. So I'm a bit dissatisfied. And now many would say, change to WordPress! - But I tried WordPress, but when I read that I am not allowed to use AdSense with it I didn't want to use it anymore. WordPress felt a hundred times better than Blogger. But I want to earn some money on my blog, so I've chosen Blogger instead.
Well, other than complaining I have a actual reason to post this post :D

I have some questions about how to add some functions into Blogger. Here is the list of what I would like to know how to add:

    - Since when I post a post, the full post is showed at the frontpage. I thought that all posts would show in a "summary mode" at the front page, but they apparently don't. If you dont understand what I mean, visit http://computertechlog.blogspot.com.
So my question is, how do I make that "summary mode" on the frontpage, so the visitors can see more that only one post at the frontpage.

    - I've seen a lot of blogs on blogspot that has a RSS feed element. In that element they have a picture from feedburner, witch tells the amount of RSS subscribers. Look at this page for an example: http://beautifulbeta.blogspot.com/, the element is called "Syndication" an can be found on the left column.
I would like to know how to add a "Syndication" look-a-like element for my blog, as they are really sexy :)

    - I would like to add social-bookmarks to the end of each post that I make. Do you know about any scripts that add them automatic?

    Regards,
    Kalle

It sounds like you have got confused on what word press to use.

There are two different setups for word press, the 100% free version and the hosted version.

The 100% version will give you a blog url such as yourname.wordpress.com and yes as you said you cant use Adsense or other cool features.

The other type of word press is the one in which you use a paid host. You would have your own url and can do anything you please with the blog. There are many hosts out there that provide a hosting account with easy to install word press. Most hosting accounts can be very cheap to purchase - see http://wordpress.org/hosting/

Blogger is good to earn an income, heck its a free service but it does have its downfalls for using it as a serious money spinner....blogger (Google) has been known to delete well established blogs, heck they even deleted their own blog at one point.

Another thing about blogger is that its more manual work than the hosted word press blog. Manual work as in when you want to do something special with the blog you have to "hack" the code, it doesnt use plugins.

For the summary posts that you want to use you'll need to hack the code, see http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=42215

Also, to use the RSS feed element you mentioned you'll need to setup a feedburner account and apply it to your blog. Setting up feedburner can be straight forward and as far as I remember there are instructions within your feedburner account.

Nahh, im not really confused. It's just that im not ready to spend money on it yet. But as it is now, im thinking about it. Because, as you say for doing things in blocker you need to hack their friggin scripts. Thats a waste of time, and boring.

WordPress is in another league than Blogger and im considering buying a host and domain name for a WordPress blog. But in the meanwhile I'll stick to blogger.

Thanks for the help on my questions, will look right in to it!

    Kalle :)

kalle437, the answer to your question about "Summary Mode" may be in your "Settings" in the Blogger Dashboard...

I do think if you change them, they will only take effect after you "Republish" your Blog again... At least that's my experience with some of the changes I made to my Blog...

KeithLDick: I've been checking for that under settings, but can't find it. If you know where to change that setting, please tell me :)

From the dashboard of the new Blogger, click Layout,

and on the 'Add and Arrange Page Elements' page, 'Edit' 'Blog Posts'. The Pop-Up will let you configure your posts configuration.

I find the new Blogger must easier and fun to work with.

Went there, but the only things that I could configure there was:

    http://www.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?446b015e32.jpg

Either i'm blind (It happens that I have the answer right infront of my eyes but cant see it :)), or its not there.
As you can see at the scrollbar its more down under, but its the save button only.

Anyone else know how to do?

    Kalle :)

    Oops, apologies.

I was trying to answer about 'the number of posts' that you want displayed.

I wasn't quiet thorough with kalle437's first post about displaying Blogger in a summarized form on the front page, which is *not* a feature in Blogger...
