I created a blog at Blogger .com about a week ago. In the last 3 days I'll have a spurt when 10-15 people visit in under 15 minutes, then nothing for hours. When I check statcounter they all say 'No referring link' This happens 3-4 times a day. Anyone know where the traffic comes from?
Possibly from within blogger.com itself? They keep a rotating set of links to blogs hosted by blogger.com...
I thought of that and maybe you're right, but it happens 3-4/day and with all the blogs out there out can't see any particular one being shown that often.
I assume that's one of those embedded stats things where the counter links back to another site? You might want to check with them... not familiar with how well those things work. Alternatively, if you host it on one of your own sites (e.g., in a subdomain), you'll be able to use your built-in stats package.
Yes it links back to their site. Statcounter is actually very good and it tells me where traffic comes from on my other sites. I though 'no referring link' was type in traffic or from favorites, as any traffic that comes from someone clicking a link does get registered.
But if your blog is hosted by blogger.com, it's possible statcounter can't get "referer" status on that site. Or alternatively, if the clicks come from within blogger.com, will they be seen as coming from the same site? No idea, really... just a suggestion. Do you see ANY referrer stats for your blog?
No referrer stats at all, sounds like you're right and they must be comming internall from blogger .com promoting various blogs, not that I mind. Thanks
Actually he's right, when you add a post to your own blog at blogger. com, the actual blogger. com home page displays latest 'published to blogs' and your blog gets listed for a few minutes.
