It really baffles and amazes me the way this mistaken comment (or something almost identical to it) emerges in every single discussion in this forum where Wordpress and Blogger are compared.

I'm happy to point out (yet again!) that you have no more, or less, control over your own site with either of these fine products. Both of them have a hosted-free version with a lot of strings and catches and no control, and both of them can instead be hosted on your own site where you have total control and none of the strings and catches.

Every time you start a new Blogger blog, you have the option of having it hosted free at Blogspot (that's the equivalent of wordpress.com) or of hosting it on your own rented server-space (that's the equivalent of wordpress.org). But Wordpress enthusiasts, for some reason, seem never to be aware of this. ;)

Aye... you can host on Blogger as a sub domain, host on your own server and transfer your domain across (in 2 mins) and you can also host it on Blogger, but get your own domain name... I think it costs just around £10.00 per year for this.

Plenty of options. A big problem with the transfer... is you could have built up PR, backlinks and directory submissions for months/years and then it could all dissapear when you move across onto your own domain.

    Agreed.

The time to start hosting either Blogger or Wordpress on your own domain and your own server is the day you start the blog. ;)

Well alot of people disagree with that. I have alot more faith in Blogger, who has the backing of the most established and successful company on the internet.

i use blogger, but i own the domain. $10 a year for domain and free hosting. why would i want to pay per month for hosting to support a wordpress blog, when i can pay $10 a year with blogger service and have a .com name with free hosting.
i do want to try out wordpress though, just something about it that attracts me never got around to it.

It's good to go with either of it but as far i'm concerned blogger is the one widely used by everyone... i dont say that wordpress is less used but there r certain criterion's like commenting which really requires time for approval !

hmm, that is quite a good point there about blogger. I have only used the free blogger and didn't put to much effort in to it so i don't know much about it.

but i now use wordpress (self hosted) and find it to be very good platform for my blogging

Because it creates much more work for them and that's part of how they make a living. ;)

Blogger is undeniably far more user friendly and there's now a huge range of really great free themes/layouts available for it, too.

    Wordpress rocks because:

    - it has larger supporting platform

    - interface is clean and easy to understand and manage. (specially for newbies_

    - More SEO friendly

    - Have great themes (free n paid)

    - You can do what u want by using plugins.

    - In Wordpress u can manage everything in categories and subcategories. But in blogspot u need to use labels.

    - If u r wp dev then u can also have a good job

Note: More ppl are using wordpress as compare to blogspot. In short, its easy to learn, manage and supports widely.

Blogger is considerably more easy to learn and manage. That's the beauty of the software.

At the end of the day, Blogger has Google and that is a HUGE benefit to have. I mean, you get automatically pinged by Weblogs and then Google will index the post within 20 or so minutes (in the search engine that has a 70%+ market share.)

You can spend more time concentrating on blogging, rather than have to ass about unneccesarily with plugins, themes and what not.

    :)
