Blogcatalog + Technorati + Zimbio etc... Could they hurt our rankings??

    Hello all,

Another question for all of you experts :)

I submitted my blog to Blogcatalog, Zimbio, and Technorati. All of them basically pull the content off of my blog as soon as I make a new post and they repost it on their sites.

My question is - If they were to be indexed first by Google (which will possibly happen), could we possibly get a duplicate content penalty?

Or to take it a step further (and to avoid any comments in regards to whether a duplicate content penalty even exists), could they just outrank us using our own content because they are more established sites?

Everybody is using them, so they must be good... but could they also hurt us?

I Googled a large paragraph out of one of the articles from my blog and Zimbio was the top result, right above my site. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!!

They keep links to your website thus all the search engines know that they copied the content and your site contains original.
The reason they outrank you is that your website has no authority, so build some more links and you will outrank them.

    That makes sense.

Can't thank you enough praetserge - you answered both my questions for the day. I would give you rep for this one too, but I don't want it to seem as if we had planned this or anything :) Thanks so much!

I think you can adjust the rss to display a portion, so that these sites do not display the full articles.

I don't think they hurt as they link back to original post
