    here I am partially agree with you on the importance of blog comments. I believe that blog comment was good method of link building before but now they are not that important but still for link building it works though they are not so very useful but still its importance is not minimal or even zero in any case.
    (just my believe)

    If you leave your blog/website link to blog comments search engine will crawl your link, but post your comment on well ranked blog only.
