I'm running a retail website selling products. say "www.products.com". I also have a Blog at http://blog.products.com linked from www.products.com and vise versa. Obviously I use the Blog to promote my products and links to each individual products and the main site on www.products.com. Is this blog technique consider Spam in the eyes of Google and other SE?
The reason I ask is because these Blogs and the links within are sent (as news) all over the Internet on other Blog sites.. You don't think this is a SPAM technique?
I think it depends on what you're putting on the blog. If you're scraping content from someone else's site or generating random gibberish, then that's probably spam. Ideally, you want to be offering something of value, not just more ads, when you put your page out there.
Yep, a lot of blogs write reviews on products with links to the salespages. Or have a ton of links to products. Etc. I do it on my blog...short one or two liner with a link to the site. It works, plus it is a backlink from my blog to the site.
I think the easiest way to define whether a blog will be considered as "spam" or not is its main purpose, or "value". If you're using a blog to create additional, unique content that may help your visitors, while at the same time educating them about the merits of your site, I'd say you're good to go. If you're using a blog to regurgitate content (from either your site or others) in an effort to create backlinks or improve your position in the SERPs...maybe not so much. Sam
