    Hi guys,

My site at the moment is in transition, but I want to try and make some money with a blog, my only issue is that, although I might have stuff to write about, where do you get traffic from? I have read other people on this forum say that they started getting decent traffic almost instantly, I dont understand this, where do you get your traffic from when its only just been released? if anyone could take me through a few steps of what the do when they release a blog because I think I can write a lot of good content...

It is possible if you have links on other prominent blogs for example.

Just get some good content and then submit it to sites like Digg.com, Shoutwire.com, Madville.com, Reddit.com, and Fark.com to name a few. Combine that with normal SEO practices, a good marketing campaign, and plenty of quality content and you can get your blog massive amount of traffic very quickly.

    You can get traffic from:

    - trackbacks: visit the wikipedia entry on trakbacks if you don't know what it means. Basically, when you link to another post on another blog, a comment appears with a link to your blog that readers can click. My advice is to pick blogs that have high traffic and traback enabled, example: GoogleBlog.

    - social sites like technorati: add technorati tags to your blog, this way when someone searches for a specific word on technorati, your blog will show up on the results. My advice is to use more than 4 tags (per post) related to the content of your post, this increases the chances of someone finding your blog. Also, check the top searches and tags.

    - using images: give "alt" and "title" attributes and pick a good name for the image file, not a random name. Many people use google images and this can be a way to get traffic as well, depending on the intentions of the user...

    - using internal links: link to previous posts on your blog. You can also link to a search result.

    - using Yahoo Answers: if the question is related to the subject of your blog and you have a post with the answer, leave a link.

    - using the following sites to promote specific posts: digg.com, reddit.com, shoutwire.com - these 3 will bring some kind of traffic for sure, the next 2 depends if the post you are submitting is "accepeted" or not: fark.com, slashdot.com

    - using ping blog services: here is a small list of sites you can ping to let the world know when you've updated your blog

    - using sites that offer "free" articles: create 10 or more articles and submit them to sites like GoArticles, eZineArticles and other similar sites. Include the address of your blog on the writers description, if the article is good many people will use it and include a link to your blog. Don't use these articles in your blog, (or if you do, modify them a bit) because duplicate content is bad.

    - subscribe to Blog Traffic King newsletter by Yaro. He has some good tips but the recent newsletters have been lacking in quality. He had a good article about the previous tip I wrote, but I can't find it right now.

Is this enough to get you started? :p
