Many have started to use "nofollow" links to defeat spammers who normally would write "I agree with you", "Excellent info", etc.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what is a "nofollow" link, and how does it distinguish between the banal and often irritating comments you mention, and legitimate and desirable feedback?

Irrelevant. Blog comments still provide a viable method of obtaining backlinks for traffic value.

Who cares about nofollow, when i look for a link I think of 1 thing. TRAFFIC. I don't care about PR. I make my own PR but offering QUALITY to my visitors. Buying PR... Now ay I want visitors and comments are still a very good method.

Nofollow is out of the point here since the TS is talking about traffic generation. However, one more thing that can be added is to comment heavily on blogs with the Show Top Commentators plugin.

Commenting on blogs can get you traffic but if your name is up there, it will get you more. For example at sites like John Chow dot com.

However, don't spam to the top. The blog owners might just ban you off the race to the top.;)

Hey maverick, if you dont have content what you will market about? And marketting is needed to get people's attention faster.. it just reduces time nothing else, if you have great content you will surely get noticed.. if you do marketting you will get noticed early, otherwise late - but you will surely be famous once you have good content.

Thanks for the tips mantavn. There is a lot of debate on allowing comments, posting everyday, posting long, etc. I appreciate your insight.

    Write long posts??
I don't agree with that... generally people don't want to read essays when they visit a site.
They are looking for something, and we should be able to provide that as quickly as possible.

I would say get a domain name. I would not use cheap hosting or even something like blogspot. I think it takes away from the site. IN my opinion only of coarse.
