I spent quite a while trying to submit my blog to various places using all the obvious stuff.. I went through three of four of these Lists of places to submit blogs. e.g. http://www.blog-connection.com/submit-blogs.htm But I feel like I didn't really accomplish much.. there's hardly any new traffic. Is there a guide or can someone who is an expert on this weigh in on what I can do or what I should concentrate on or make sure I didn't miss when promoting the blog? Thanks, Eric
Traffic from most of those sites will be non-existent. They are like directories...full of thousands and thousands of blogs. Best that can happen is that at some point you will get okay back links. Your best bet is to submit to blogs by commenting on the subject at hand and use your url to your blog. Use a blog blaster to get out there.
Personally I use http://www.blogexplosion.com/ to promote my blog. I find that compared to other traffic exchanges, it work very well. Many visitors comment, subscribe and return rather that just skimming your pages.

My favorites are Technorati and Bloglines. The rest of the smaller directories are good for getting some backlinks to your blog. Ask yourself - do you surf these blog directories and read other people's blogs? Personally, I don't. Most of the time, I discover related blogs from clicking on blogroll links on blogs that I follow. So you might want to start contacting some blogs that are related to yours and ask for a link exchange in their blogroll.
try using Technorati Tags for your blog. There are plugins out there as well for this purpose; one such can be found at http://dev.wp-plugins.org/wiki/BunnysTechnoratiTags But nothing can beat the effect of having lots of quality content on your blog as this is what makes your blog and people will come to read.
go here: http://www.rss-specifications.com/rss-submission.htm and submit your blogs rss as well as your blog itself to all of them!!
I've tried submitting to all the blog directories but the results weren't that amazing. What really surprised me was that all the traffic came from the generic search results from google and yahoo. I bet SEO in those blogs play a big role.
Submitting to these blog directories, etc is okay. So why not submit your blog to other blogs???? Be better back links, etc. I use a program called blog-blaster. Using the right keyword, I can have my blog posted to other blogs in no time at all. This is also a good way to get your sites, not just blogs, listed on blogs. PM me if you want to know more about blog-blaster. Thank you for reading.
I haven't been too impressed by the blog engines either. With the exception of eatonweb, technorati and lsblogs, they aren't even showing up as backlinks. The best way to get traffic is to keep your content coming. Searchers will find your blog content in the search engines, and if you have good, regular posts that are relevant to them, they will return. Think about SEO when you are writing your posts, make sure you are using keywords appropriately, while writing for your audience.
Thanks guys.. I submitted to a lot of these places. Since I am in Chicago I also joined a few local Blog map lists and a Chicago blogger web ring. I'm not sure I understand Technorati but it sounds well recommended . I am awaiting approval of my site on blogexplosion and blogmosh, of the two blogexplosion seems a lot more slick and easy to use and understand. I submitted to Eatonweb and Isblogs. Iowadawg mentioned blog blaster a couple times, I sent him a PM. Eric
