I have a question about where to put a blog. Would it be better add a blog within the current URL of a site, or to have a separate URL linking to the main site? The reason I would consider the secondary URL is because it is a really good domain name and maybe (?) better for SERPs? The main website is tsptalk.com so which do you think would be a better spot for the blog page: tsptalk.com/blog or tsp.net? ("tsp" is the major keyword for my site). Opinions please, and if you can, explain why. Thanks!
I host all of my blogs on the site rather then on a separate URL. That way the blog adds content/pages to the existing URL which makes the site bigger as a whole (which I believe the search engines like).
I agree. It also adds "an arm" to your site, a companion piece, which you can use to augment and enhance the site (every 6 months or so in my case ).
Yes I put mine on the same URL too. Its a good addition to the site. Use the blog to announce updates to the site, while using the actual website to go into detail about the updates etc.
Thanks! Sounds like I got my answer. Any ideas what to do with tsp.net? I realize what is involved with making a page SERP ready, but would the name tsp.net help in the SERPs for a search on "tsp" or does that not matter? Thanks again!
Does the term TSP get any searches? Can't say I have heard of the term. if it gets searches then yes, the domain would help.
Having that domain is a huge boost. Especially as now you'll have it in your <title> tags and all over the place. Well done securing it.
sarahk - Thanks. The domain was a good find, but are you suggesting I do use the tsp.net for the blog, or are you saying something else? Right now I just have a redirect to the main site and I don't think it is helping me much.
Perhaps it might be good to get a seperate domain name for your blog if you are planning on adding more features to it, and possibly maintain it as a destination by itself (that is people go there purely for the sake of the blog), with periodic links to your main page. But maintaining it as a sub-directory of your main page is as good enough if you simply want it to be an update of your activities on the main page. If I am not wrong, you can always buy a domain name, and point it to one of the subdirectories of your existing account, so you might want to use that to get the best of both worlds.
