I have seen many articles aimed specifically to Blog promotion but I do not get it...How is it blog promotion different?
Don’t you have to take all the same steps (link building, original content creating, directory submission etc...) for both types of sites?

    Thanks

Yes, but "Blog" is a bigger buzzword than "Website". Tell a marketer you maintain 20 websites, and they'll think "So?", but tell them you maintain 10 blogs and they'll be slathering all over you.

It's more or less the same, but blogs are a little more dynamic. It's easier to upload the content, do trackbacks and other little things that (for me) make a blog a nice proposition.

I personally feel blogs are just a fad that will lose attention in the future.

Blogs are a fad, and as the next "Big Thing" comes out, they will stop being the big thing they are. Web 1.0 websites are not as hip as Web 2.0 sites, but people are still making them like crazy. They don't get the publicity they used to because we all look at them and think "That's so 90's". In 5 or 10 years, we'll all be looking at blogs thinking "That's so 00's", but there will still be plenty of people creating blogs while we think. Who knows, maybe VRML will get revived. Maybe geolocating will get improved and we'll be innundated by websites physically close to us. Maybe it won't even look like the internet as we know it (for example, my "phone" will connect to the Starbucks site and place my order as soon as I pull into their parking lot).

Blogs made it easier for non-techies to create a dynamic website and get feedback from non-techie users. It seems to me that the next Big Thing will involve a cool technical thing that gets made simpler and/or an expensive thing that gets made cheaper. If you go out and find a complex system that is incredibly expensive but really cool and make it cheap and simple, you will be the next Big Thing.

The best thing about blog promotion are blogrolls. A lot of people will click on links in a blog roll because they are similar blogs to the one you were originally reading.

Blogs are becoming complete websites these days. Given time, there will be no difference between the two. I mean wordpress is a really great website builder with lots of templates to choose from. Wouldn't you agree?
