How/why do you think it would affect your adsense? I mean, it would affect your traffic, and since traffic=money, it will affect your income (including income from adsense), but that's the only way I can see that it would hurt things.

Where did you hear that exactly? You could go and put up a site full of unmodified PLR content right now and it wouldn't be against TOS.

What I find strange is that the copied posts are doing better in the search engines than his original posts

I have had my blog and website content copied but the sites doing this never really came anywhere near me in the SERPs
I thought it was because the search engine bots recognized my content as the original

This is partly the reason why I'm still searching for plugin similar to wp-protect. It was a good plugin but the author just force it too much by - inserting link to his site from those using the plugin.:D

Adsesnse has nothing to do with your posts being scraped. What you might want to do is get a plugin for your blogs that don't allow right-clicking and other functions when a visitors comes to your site.

I doubt its someone actually right clicking. Using a script to scrape a sight is much more efficient.

And as for duplicate content and adsense, don't worry. If you could get kicked out of adsense by having someone copy your stuff, unscrupulous peoples could go around getting everyone kicked out by copying their sites. Heck I'd do it just to prove how stupid that policy was. Google does not like leaving your fate in anyone's hands but their own.

Make sure your rss feed is not displaying thhe full article. Make sure to visit your site after posting so that google bot sees it right away. Build some good links in your article back to your site (this way you get back links form the copying site!!). Build good backlinks in general because that will help you out rank the offender. And then don't sweat it. If you write good brandable posts, people will see the copied content.
