i think it depends of keywords and concurrence. for small niches its good, but for serious - trading and buying links required
Agreed. Blog posts are VERY important. But purchased backlinks and High PR links etc should definitely be part of the process too in my opinion.

Well said. You are right that blog posts are more worthwhile than article publishings. I have noticed such a thing in recent past before Panda update when a lot of websites have lost most of their article back links and the social media links were the real winners.
You are absolutely right. After the Panda update by google, I have seen a great rise in my blog's organic traffic. That's because, I concentrate on get blog post links & not just spam links (like through some article directories).
also, wordpress pings google by default so your posting will be indexed much faster than usual articles. speedy link building)
