i want to make a site that has a blog, but then also an ecommerce store selling furniture...

should i make the ecommerce site on the root level www.mysite.com ?

and the blog on a sub folder? www.mysite.com/furnitureblog

or should i do it the other way around...

    blog on main url www.mysite.com

reason i ask is perhaps if i put blog on main url google will give it more importants and there is no bleeding of page rank... and then can just link to the ecommerce store on the sub url

    thoughts?

ecommerce always comes first. Always give a person the earliest opportunity to buy.

    Blog is second IMO

I also think e-commerce should be on / while blog could be on subdomain like blog.domain.com

I never used it, but I hear that their is a module for Wordpress to have a shopping cart. Maybe a solution for you.

I think you will find the wordpress ecommerce plugin very basic, go for the ecommerce store in the root directory, use oscommere or similar then the blog in a subdomain as previously suggested.

Yup definetely make the focus of the site the furniture.

Dont shy away from the blog though. Keep some space on the home page for your latest post or maybe your most popular posts.

People are more receptive to shopping when they have the assurance a person is sitting behind the scenes.

Good luck with your new business :)
