    PingOMatic is what I use, although I have no idea of finding out how effective these things are.

    Does pinging even do anything productive? I've been doing it form my blogs..but it's hard to say if it's worthwhile.

    Well it requires zero additional work, so any benefit it has is more than not pinging... so you might as well.
