Neither one has more value than the other, blogs are better since it doesn't require a lot of backend work, you can post and go. Static pages you have full control over and tend to have more optimization control without having to dig through a blogging platform script to make your alterations. Static = Full authoritive control / More Work Blog = Less authoritive control / Less Work All my blogs are just from templates I made, I use SSI to inject new posts and such, I never use backend platforms for blogging, that is a personal preference.
